Nice endorsement of 8090’s Software Factory from one of our Alpha users. Dev cleanup is going quickly so we are accelerating our launch. In Sep many thousands from the waitlist will get invites. Assuming scaling, security and other peripheral features don’t break, we will release everyone into the Beta in the last few weeks of Sep and aim to GA by Oct1. Personally, there are a handful of reasons to try @8090solutions Software Factory if you are a team building a product: 1. Collaborative approach that ties business, PMs, Designers, Engineers and QA in a tight loop. 2. “Backprop” allows you to generate one-shot Eng plans and PRDs from leg…
#9 in America. Summit Sep7-9 should be 🔥. https://t.co/Z9ZQ5hoaLu
I could see a world where everyone spins their own Stabecloin rails to compress the cost and take advantage of the yield play if people park money in their account. You would still pay for other value added services like fraud detection and credit checks but I could see Visa and Mastercard have open bots that do this on a per txn basis.
In a world of useful AI chat bots and agents, the need and usefulness of many existing modalities will be challenged. Take browsers and payment flows. Today, if you need “something”, you use a browser and search for it. You then go to that site, load up your cart and then check out, putting in your payment details. Tomorrow, you can just tell the AI what you roughly need. It will then go out, do all the hard work of comparison and search and deliver you an elegant summary of the results so you can click on everything you want. Then an agent will load up all of those carts on your behalf. It will also take your payment credentials and check…
Our best approximation thus far of behavior, intent and usage across the Web has been cookies. Now, when we keep a chat ongoing with an AI bot, we give them an incredible, rich sense of who we are, what we are about etc. so much better than cookies can. Seems like whomever figures out how to optimize themselves for this new reality will be very important. Important consequences for Search and (re)targeting as well. First gen feature is destined to be interstitial e-commerce prompts from the AI to the user. Enabled entirely by bots behind the scene, no need for a browser or clunky payment flows. Likely drives non trivial CTRs.
In December 2008, The Federal Reserve went from a target RATE to a target RANGE to give themselves more flexibility to set monetary policy amidst economic uncertainty. They were saying the quiet part out loud. It was too hard, even in 2008, to know precisely what was going on in the economy with the tools and data The Fed had access to. In 2025, 17 years later, it is reasonable to ask two critical questions: 1. Does the free market, using SOFR, now have a better rate setting mechanism than Fed Governors via Fed Funds? SOFR is robust, calculated and secured. Fed Funds is human derived, unsecured and sits on top of data that changes wildly a…

On this point of new technology to stop deranged people, my friend @adcock_brett, outside of his day job, has funded a really interesting company to help detect guns near schools so police and other first responders can intercept before a tragedy happens. https://t.co/2nAwTzhiBF
I would like the ability to filter out any post on X that includes the following phrase and derivatives of it: “This changes everything we knew about [insert topic]…” It never changes anything and is usually a way to know it’s clickbait selling you vitamins on Amazon. The generalization here is that it would be really useful to fuzzy filter on phraseology as much as it is to mute/block accounts on a one off basis. Right now I need to know exact word/phrase combos and it takes too much work. @nikitabier
One way to slow roll AI adoption in software development is to not hire the people who natively use AI in software development.
Whenever I have an opportunity to partner with a brilliant technologist to build something special, I do so. A few years ago, Matt Stroud (my brilliant cofounder) set out to rebuild the heat pump. Here is a summary of our company: @Icebox_Energy Problem Statement: We are building an end-to-end cooling solution for data centers using CO2. Why: Next-generation HPC/AI processors produce heat beyond the capabilities of traditional cooling. Only four viable options exist: two-phase immersion cooling (impractical and environmentally hazardous), impinged water jets (complex and leak-risky), two-phase refrigerant cold plates (environmentally conce…
Nice. Here is a really good, detailed overview of Software Factory from an early Alpha user. We’re on the right track.
The implications for housing, home prices and RE taxes are very important as this happens. Biggest beneficiary will be low tax states. Biggest loser will be hi tax states. Can you guess why?
We made a big leap with Software Factory this week: We can now back-propagate from legacy code we’ve never seen into an accurate architecture blueprint (and PRD) in one shot. Then you can go forward with new features on legacy code adhering to the architecture. This is a critical feature for any large organization with millions/billions of lines of legacy code that you have to work with and can’t just clean-sheet around. We are still early (read: this will get much much better over the next few iterations) but it is really coming together nicely. https://t.co/0RJT5iwRhS
The biggest differences between Republicans and Democrats used to be fiscal policy and their perceptions of the first and second amendments. A few years ago, it deviated wildly to individual freedom on one side and top down control on the other. https://t.co/rTRkwcbt1L
New pod!!
Many of the coding wrapper companies have recently changed their monetization to move almost exclusively to usage based. It’s a necessary step for these companies to be GM+ but it will also accelerate the economic incentive for the underlying Foundational Models to “move up the stack” as well. Otherwise, the FMs risk being disintermediated by agents/tool calls. Based on the recent valuations of the FMs, it’s unlikely that they can afford to let this happen. Next few quarters will be really interesting.

I started @8090solutions in June-2024. Initially, our first go to market was to try and build a transpiler to take CUDA workloads to other silicon targets - Inferentia, Cerebras, Groq etc. at equivalent or better performance. That path turned out to be a technical dead end. So we pivoted. When talking to potential customers, their pain point was consistently the same: they wanted more efficiency and coordination: Years of point tools stitched together created an inefficient development process. Lots of tools, lots of cost, poor coordination, high error bars on deliverability and low accountability were consistently cited. So we decided t…
We have customers in most parts of the US economy. That said, before we started working with them, many of our customers at @8090solutions had been spending money on “AI”. But much of it was theater. Executives needed plausible deniability to their CEOs or Boards who were asking them about their AI strategy. We built Software Factory in part as a response to their frustration and what we saw: - Using AI or not, building production-grade apps was still hard. - Business Requirements were still hazy, incomplete or just wrong. - Drift in implementation was common. - Timelines were unreliable. - Outside of reviewing PRs, having product dev…
What I Read This Week… 1/ The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that CPI increased 2.7% over the past year and 0.2% in July, broadly in line with expectations and signaling that inflation at the household level is steady. By contrast, PPI (producer prices) increased 3.3% year over year, with a 0.9% monthly increase that was the largest in several years and well above forecasts of 0.3% to 0.4%. What’s going on? CPI is calculated from a representative basket of goods and services, weighted by typical household spending, while PPI measures the prices producers and wholesalers receive for goods and services, from raw materials to finished pro…
It’s unpopular to say, but it’s true: You can’t vibe anything useful rn. You can barely vibe a working product. And there are still virtually zero examples of anything even moderately useful/successful that was vibed - especially considering how much money has been spent so far on LLM calls to try and do so. This won’t be true forever but is true today. As with other tech cycles, a trough of disillusionment may soon come as folks get frustrated and give up. In the meantime, trying a more team oriented approach to building may result in better outcomes. Our Software Factory was extracted from our work making useful software for large, dem…
Residential solar in the US will be an enormous growth category going forward: 1) clear guidance from BBB 2) clear guidance from POTUS EO 3) increasing traditional electricity generation prices from utilities 4) degrading grid reliability because of maintenance OPEX 5) decreasing cost of solar + storage It’s a runaway freight train that will benefit US consumers over the next decade.

A great part about building 8090 has been building camaraderie with our early customers. One of the better nicknames I’ve heard recently as we’ve built this trust is “Seagull”. Used to describe an ambitious executive at one of our customers who mostly flies around shitting on everything.

Teamwork makes the dream work! It also creates transparency, accountability and trust. I think many organizations can benefit from Software Factory by making their teams more tightly coordinated and cohesive like Rob’s experience below. We’re rolling through our Alpha early invitees now. Hoping to speed run a Beta once a few big updates are done in Sep and GA in October. If you’d like to try it: https://t.co/0RJT5iwRhS
Really well said. In the near future, the true balance sheet of a company will be its code base. And due diligence will look like code review. You should start preparing.
While it isn’t true today, in the very near future, a company will be very well approximated by the software that is used to run it. IE you will be able to understand any company in the world with precision (and, by extension, how good it is), simply by studying the software and heuristics used to run it. When this happens, it will be mandatory for every company to have a library of living PRDs. These PRDs will become the Bible of how a company works. Without them, you are blind or guessing. With them, you are a relentless company builder and optimizer. With infinite AI agents working for you. This is the future that @8090solutions is sol…
