$DASH's founders have made an 8-year bet in autonomy, with a purpose-built robot (Dot) AND a big bet in agentic commerce, with "Ask Doordash" massively changing food discovery as a power eater, was fun to speak w/@andyfang @stanleytang about hidden demand, why you have to make contact with physical reality to do robotics, and what you learn from 3B deliveries

@SaiMandhan one of my favorite things about technology is that mostly people just take you at face value. really extraordinary (high profile, repeat) founders did not care about my age or pedigree. they cared about quality of ideas and work and what would move the needle for their businesses

guys, napoleon had it right and these days it’s just as important to get (Canadian) Waterloo as an aside, the man should have pursued the Prussians faster, kept his forces concentrated, attacked Wellington earlier, and avoided wasteful assaults before the armies united “He will win who knows when to fight and when not to fight.”

Rude Ducking

Sometimes, in exasperation, I ask my kids: “What do you not want to do, and why?” They’re smart. More often than not, they know what to do, but they’re avoiding it. Eat their protein and vegetables. Get through their annoyance without blowing up. Apologize. Adults often know (and don’t do) the hard step too. We just have better evasive maneuvers. We answer frivolous emails instead of sending the memo. We give someone who isn’t measuring up “one more quarter.” Avoidance is fear. Sometimes I can feel myself procrastinating a painful phone call, and then I can force myself to make it. But sometimes I don’t know that I’m afraid for a while. M…

sometimes people’s ideas are judged to be bad because of the ideas, not because of their employers “hidden protectionism without benefit to Americans is necessary, because otherwise AI will be so unprofitable it will decelerate” is a silly premise no matter who the author see: massive capital inflows to AI ecosystem

Hard to overstate what a big deal this is for @SierraPlatform. Horizon is an expansion into customizable and compounding outcomes-seeking agents. Bret, Clay and team are expressing their worldview in their product. They are shipping the AI business model and products that are aligned with Sierra customers (pay for ROI) and deepen Sierra's customers’ moats (their customer relationships).

"The overarching concern to do the right thing well is something we can't train for. Either it's there or it isn't.” -- Danny Meyer per the excellent advice of @johnolilly, never persuade yourself to hire someone you don't trust.

why so much hype around robotics, but no robots in homes yet? insufficient generalization and robustness to deploy. that’s changing, and the way we measure robotics needs to change too! research update from the team of 🧑‍🍳 @sundayrobotics, and when something is really “SOLVED”

I wrote an essay for The Humanist Review of AI, a new editorial publication exploring AI’s impact on the world. The first issue explores the intersection of people and technology through a collection of original essays from a range of thinkers -- mine: "Against The Small Future." https://t.co/YUWyPeLFf3
