1/7 In the thread below, we note that diesel prices are soaring. Another short 🧵on why tl:dr, it's the war. But the "other war" ... Russia-Ukraine. (The fact that we have an "other war" speaks volumes about the state of the world.) 2/7 Ukraine is bringing the war to Russia's energy infrastructure. https://t.co/hiZ2oyXY87 3/7 Good open-source data shows what’s happening to Russia’s energy infrastructure. Refinery Ledger shows that 60% of Russia’s oil refinery infrastructure has been damaged by Ukrainian drones. (Note: Russia does not disclose how much has been repaired and is back online.) https://t.co/sE8xsvTsEs 4/7 In the last few hours, Ukraine announced that it hit the Saratov and Slavyansky Oil Refineries. https://t.co/qP4pVPcQbt 5/7 Russia has 39 refineries. Ukraine has now hit 34 of them, some of them as far as 6,000 kilometers away. Many have been hit more than once. Before last night's strikes, Saratov and Slavyansky had been hit 8 times. https://t.co/DfLimatL3x 6/7 This has caused Russia to stop exporting gasoil, the base fuel for diesel, marine (bunker), and jet fuel, to Europe. This shortage in Europe has pushed gasoil prices up by over 120% since the Iran-US war started. https://t.co/qKMBqdo2vJ 7/7 Europe is seeking alternative diesel sources, including in the U.S., which is squeezing U.S. supplies. https://t.co/Vh4rsH9tXu Follow up The fuel shortage is so bad that this is what a typical petrol station looks like in Russia right now. https://t.co/zCYzWfwIQq Did Trump read my post?
