What actually happened was that we stopped valuing having a family and instead became hyper focused on individual goals.
The myriad books, courses, content, slogans over the past 50 years all reinforced the same incentive: your fulfillment is largely from professional endeavors so double down and lean in.
The byproduct was that having a family became secondary and conveyed less status.
Unless we dismantle these laggard ideas and find incentives to celebrate and elevate family formation, our birthrates will continue to fall.
