To make the math simple, the car on the left is $25k. The car on the right is $150k. That said, the key question in my mind aren’t the design choices each made but how regulators will frame their expectations to have a robust, safe fully autonomous fleet in their city. I suspect, initially, they start with licenses for both. And as they collect data it will be incumbent on Tesla to show their error tolerances are as good or better than Waymo. Otherwise, it creates a lobbying opportunity for Waymo to convince regulators that increasing the BoM helps increase safety for pedestrians and other drivers. And, as such, their design decisions shoul…
Toronto’s technical talent is consistently underrated. This is why we continue to bet on it and want to grow the ecosystem of builders there. If you’re in Toronto in January (or nearby), please come!
By shrinking the Federal bureaucracy, it keeps the government and, by extension, the deep state as small and out of your way as much as possible.
Building with precision vs building with "speed". The former is about going slow up front so you get the intention and details right. This then allows you to go fast in the middle and the end. The latter is about going fast up front only to realize you made many sub optimal decisions, the code is janky and it quickly becomes unwieldy and slop. 2026 will be an important year when more and more companies come to this realization and demand a collaborative, opinionated way to build software in a structured and disciplined way. This is what we created when we built Software Factory at @8090solutions. A collaborative new way to imagine softwar…
What I read this week... 1) On 12/11, The White House issued a new Executive Order declaring that the United States must adopt a single national AI regulatory standard rather than a mosaic of state-level rules. The EO does not define the federal standard but directs agencies to resist state laws viewed as burdensome, using the following tools: - DOJ litigation - FTC action against compelled model outputs - FCC challenges to disclosure mandates - Withholding of discretionary federal funds The goal is to prevent divergent state requirements that might hamper the AI landscape before Congress acts. The framework that the administration pursues…
This is absolute lunacy. I’ve said many times that SF is a dump. It is. But it’s now becoming a dumpster fire. Banning R&D in the Mission area of SF?!?! What does that even mean? Burritos…yes! Cancer cures…no thanks!
All in this week with @TuckerCarlson!
The reason this EO is important is so that the federal government can take the lead on defining the rules on the field. Playing a game with 50 sets of rules isn’t viable. Having to do so would slow down investment. But with one federal framework, there’s an opportunity to create one set of rules so that AI investments can continue - currently responsible for half of American GDP.
This attitude is why healthcare in America is both really expensive and sometimes not very good. A preventative MRI, something my friends and I do every 2-3 years, absolutely exists and has tremendous value. It is the best form of schmuck insurance: 99.9% of the time it finds nothing, 0.1% of the time it saves your life. The cost of a full body MRI is $2-3k right now but it has fallen from $5k a few years ago. This procedure will soon be under $1k or less than $1/day when accounting for the periodicity making it affordable for many - especially through an HSA or employer sponsor.
Merry Christmas from the White House! https://t.co/VSq9k6WeCw
Becomes more and more true every day…
Blake becomes more and more impressive as I get to know him…this is just awesome.
What I read this week... 1) Kalshi Raises $1B at $11B Valuation Kalshi has closed a stunning $1 billion Series E funding round at an $11 billion valuation, more than doubling its worth in under two months. The round, led by crypto-focused venture firm Paradigm with participation from Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Y Combinator, and other prominent investors, marks one of the most dramatic valuation increases in recent fintech history. Kalshi’s explosive growth stems from its unique position as the first CFTC-regulated prediction market platform in the United States. Kalshi’s recent growth reflects this reality, with trading volumes …
Really nuts that we, US taxpayers, are paying for this stuff. The projects are technically written in English, but it’s not in English. No one can explain what these are. For those that reflexively hate DOGE, do you honestly think your quality of life or cost of living goes either up or down because of these projects?? Because they don’t. We should probably cancel them and keep cancelling other questionable spending until all that is left are the true projects that improve quality of life and decrease cost of living. Then we can take a bunch of the money we saved along the way and put more money into those core programs and see sustained…
Mainstream media’s approach is to paint anyone they can’t control as corrupt or conflicted. The truth is always the opposite. The individuals aren’t corrupt. The media is. America deserves the best and brightest from industry taking a few years off to work in government and help make sure we remain the most vibrant country in the world. Just because those people refuse to be in the pocket of the media doesn’t mean they deserve to be smeared.
Pod up!

My take on the energy discussion with China and the U.S grid problem: https://t.co/OrMM5L2skZ From 1900 to 2000, new grid power capacity increased 10x every 30 years. In the last 25 years, it has grown only 1.3x. In the same period, China expanded 7x to roughly 10,000 TWh. https://t.co/7X0hlYw9ii If you want to learn why our U.S. grid is becoming one of the decade’s biggest bottlenecks, read on: https://t.co/xwrNVXOcLR

Agreed. There is a concerted effort by the bureaucratic class to paint success and experience as a sign of corruption. Instead, it’s the exact opposite. Success and experience in the free market only comes from repeatedly expressed and easily measured good judgement. It’s the opposite of corruption and we should want as many people with good judgement like David Sacks to infiltrate and reform our bureaucracy.

What I read this week... 1) On 11/24, The Genesis Mission was signed into action by Executive Order. The Genesis Mission is framed as a modern-day counterpart to the Manhattan Project, harnessing the Department of Energy’s 17 National Laboratories, industry, and academia to build an integrated discovery platform. The goal is to leverage this platform and advanced artificial intelligence to double U.S. research and development productivity within a decade. They plan to reach this ambitious goal by getting access to the world’s largest collection of Federal scientific datasets to train scientific foundation models and create AI agents to te…
Private equity wives (or tech wives) and power hungry globalist technocrats will cause the end of days... The former comes from a place of guilt because they did nothing themselves to make the largesse they enjoy and are thus riddled with guilt. The latter schemes to collect power because they believe they are morally and intellectually superior. Both are corrosive. We undo this hysteria by being principled, logical and believing that large groups of people, with independent incentives, will always find a better way.
When idiots admit idiots… - loss of credibility for the school in the eyes of employers and post grad institutions - lack of career prospects and student debt that won’t be paid off by admitted students At a minimum, we should all agree that student loans should not be federal guaranteed if the students receiving them can’t do basic math.
i just used geminiii on what i felt was a complicated business problem and it blew me away with its answer
