Ingest Structure Learn (ISL) is the new ETL. It used to be the case that a company would try to license this kind of data as an “edge”. I’ve seen many companies in SV try to make this claim. That is no longer possible because it is no longer an edge. When data like this is widely available, many services will ingest it, clean it up then learn from it. Some will make incredible breakthroughs. Those that learn better aka are more intelligent will win. Those that simply do the mechanistic work of ingestion, no matter how complicated or cumbersome, won’t have anything of value to show for it so it’s not worth trying. ISL for the win.

Deep Dive on Neuralink: Controlling Computers With Your Mind

The human brain receives data at ~1,000,000,000 bits per second. But it can act on and express only ~10 bits per second. This includes tasks like moving, thinking, and speaking. This is like being connected to fiber-optic internet, but only being able to respond through a 1990s dial-up modem. An upgrade is needed, especially in a world racing towards increasingly capable AI. In 2016, Elon Musk founded Neuralink to develop a scalable Brain-Computer Interface (BCI): a system that establishes a direct communication pathway between the brain’s electrical activity and an external device, bypassing traditional pathways (i.e., nerves and muscles)…

Prediction: The Billionaire Tax will die and will not get to the ballot. Instead, a negotiated settlement will see the upper end of the income tax in California go up to 16%. This is the only way to resolve for what's happened.

There’s something equally important to attorney-client privilege and that is confidentiality in general. How many white collar workers are currently feverishly uploading decks, models, PDFs and otherwise confidential work product into public LLMs trying to do their job better or otherwise get an edge right now? Non-zero. How will this work, then, when a company claims copyright or confidentiality violations because it turns out an employee broke their employee agreement when using one of these tools. But, then what? Do the tools purge that information? Can you undo any prompt/response meta data? Agent traces? Of course not. When technol…

“Microsoft has been the worst-performing stock of the hyperscalers since the November 30, 2022 launch of ChatGPT and has significantly underperformed the Nasdaq during that period” Looking at this chart, you’d have thought that Meta and not Microsoft was the one that owned 25% of OpenAI and ran the cloud for them.

In 2020, I hired McKinsey to teach me about the global energy transition. I learned a lot, but it cost me more than $2M. After that experience, I decided to build my own internal research project at Social Capital called Learn With Me. Over the last two years, my @socialcapital team and I systematized our process into a product that allows anyone to learn with me continuously, for a fraction of the cost of a single McKinsey report. Each Learn With Me Deep Dive represents 300+ hours of first-principles research, expert interviews, and truth-seeking analysis of what's happening in the world today. We have 3 main goals: 1) Educate: Break dow…

We need to overhaul higher education in America as follows: 1) For those about to pay: No more federal underwriting of student loans. Let the free market differentiate schools, degrees and costs. Without this, more kids will get trapped for life in debt they can never pay back with a degree that is useless. 2) For those that have paid: reward them with a tax credit of 1x this amount to be used against their future earnings. 3) For those that can’t pay: establish an amortization schedule to discharge their debt and make it non recourse to the student as long as they fulfill a set of obligations that help America somehow (terms TBD but think…

Most documentation rots because it’s expensive to maintain and easy to ignore. Software Factory is documentation-first so teams can describe systems in English and let agents compile that intent into code. It detects drift on every code push and keeps documentation synchronized with reality. Context stays alive. Agents keep building. Try it here: https://t.co/fkfTXgdfXK

America has 18 million zombies… Everyone I know that smokes pot has or is becoming an idiot, deranged, neurotic, psychotic or all of the above. Not a single one is normal. Can’t say the same for alcohol.

To be productive in a world of AI and agents, the most important new system is the system of record that helps teams work together to design and agree on intent and context. This is the necessary guardrail for AI and agents to get past demos and reliably make production quality code. This is where Software Factory shines. Try it here: https://t.co/fkfTXgdfXK

How Solar Beat Coal, Gas, and Nuclear Combined

In 2025, the energy landscape hit a historic inflection point. Solar now attracts ~$500B in investments each year, more capital than all other electricity sources combined. Last year, the world installed more new solar generation than coal, gas, nuclear, wind, and hydro put together. While the International Energy Agency spent the last two decades underestimating solar growth, costs have fallen by 90%, and annual installations have grown exponentially. What happened? Extraction vs Manufacturing Traditionally, energy relied on extracting finite fuel from the Earth. In extraction, ongoing opex costs for coal and gas plants stay high because…
