Prologues kind of fell out of favor for a while because people wrote overly long ones, but I think short, concise prologues often add a lot to a novel. The Stolguard Incident starts like this: https://t.co/GFBR8IIKsU

Since questions about private credit are so popular today, I had a segment with Danny about the topic:

@LMDJohnston Very different. Stolguard is way darker and more action/violence focused than PHM. About all they share in common is they can both trigger significant emotions in people. Joy/sadness, etc.

The ideal scenario is to find/develop your own authorial voice, and then refine it to make it the cleanest, optimal form of your style that you can.

@Setarco22128598 @Economics21st @PeterMcCormack There’s a capital requirement. They currently have higher reserve ratios than average historically.

XPost

@Economics21st @PeterMcCormack Nope, banks don’t create money by any of those methods. That just moves existing money around. Only by lending it on fractional reserve do they create it broadly. The money stock needn’t grow under sound systems that don’t rely on fractional reserve.

@ExplorationAnon I studied dozens of authors’ prose directly, and several academic guides on the subject. My favorite prose of all is by @LordGrimdark.

@edougkins @Crypto_Nobody25 @arrington The 2022 Inflation Reduction Act didn't do anything to materially reduce inflation, nor was it a major contribution to inflation (all of the 2020/2021 stuff was), and instead was mostly about other stuff, but was nonetheless timed rather flawlessly for optics. https://t.co/uaAoFanUxz

The truth behind this is that I studied fiction prose quite extensively, since I knew that was my weakness ahead of time (relative to story, characters, etc). I'm an engineer/financier, not an English major. So I focused heavily to turn that weakness into a strength. 🧵 Some prose is very artful. Very poetic. Very literary. Like reading a story through a gorgeous stained glass window. Other prose is transparent/direct. It translates the feelings and actions clearly. You don't see the words, you see the scene. Through clear glass. There's no world where I'd be a poet. Literary. But I don't like pulp fiction prose either. They write fast, …

@Crypto_Mags I purposely avoided putting memes into the story. But couldn't help but be self-aware of items as they came up. 😅 In chapter 15, someone capable of destroying a train goes around one instead.

@LindaRaschke I’m glad you’ve enjoyed it. I wish a swift recovery for your mom. 🙏❤️

Indeed, the original 150 Pokémon are among the first things I bothered to memorize as a kid. Likely the first significant dataset absorbed.

We’re are at the point of history where most April Fool’s jokes are indistinguishable from totally real things that happen regularly now. 😅

@BitPaine He’s almost always chill, for years. Now he’s not. Until he chill, we’re all in the “monitoring the situation” territory. https://t.co/4Spf7Ge7tm
