Singapore is now the #1 passport in the world. https://t.co/MmzAkZHC8Z Singapore is now #2 in inbound millionaires per capita. Only the UAE ranks higher. https://t.co/nFybpz5XsN I like @tylercowen a lot, and his post is worth reading, but I draw very much the opposite conclusions. As he points out, the world has gotten crazier in ways that make Singapore far more normal. But that means their style of doing things is going to be not just normal, but aspirational. - Highly tolerant yet legally strict - Internationalist and capitalist - English-speaking yet Asian - Public services with low taxes - Clean and green - Modern and high-tech We need many more startup societies like Singapore, Dubai, El Salvador, and Starbase. And god willing, we will build them. https://t.co/IZ6RatsZ2Y @tylercowen Precisely. Lee Kuan Yew was one of the greatest founders of all time. We don’t fully recognize him in that way, because we don’t yet have 1000 founders of startup cities like we do startup companies. But we will. https://t.co/de3EkvsPl0 @tylercowen Singapore drained the swamp. @tylercowen Singapore is #3 globally in tech unicorns per capita. https://t.co/dbMFBPSL2t @tylercowen Singapore is #2 in Claude usage per capita. https://t.co/ZGaRLf6ul1

Just as China has been doing mosquito elimination successfully, so too has Singapore. In areas where researchers released sterilized mosquitoes, the population collapsed, whereas areas without the intervention were unaffected. We can kill the mosquitoes. We just have to try. https://t.co/uGxKRfkq9T

Everyone in the west who is semi interested in what is happening in their countries should read up on Singaporean history. Eg Lee Kwan Yew’s Memoirs (I’m reading currently). Not everything is applicable, and certainly not easy. But they got far more right than wrong; and seem far happier, richer, and better prepared for the present challenges than basically all the other rich Western countries I’ve lived in or observe.
