While autonomous vehicles and humanoid robots are likely to be the largest applications of AI in the next five to ten years, health care is likely to be the most profound application: The convergence of AI with multiomics sequencing and gene editing technologies already is diagnosing cancer with blood tests in stage one, curing sickle cell disease and beta thalassemia, and cutting the time and cost to develop new therapies. According to @ARKInvest’s research, during the next five years AI could cut the cost to develop a new drug from $2.4 billion (including failed trails) to $600 million, and cut the time from 13 years to 8 or fewer years. “Sick care” accounts for 85-90% of the bloated health care budget in the US. Health care accounts for nearly 20% of US GDP, or ~$5 trillion. According to @ARKInvest’s research, the tsunami of sick care dollars will give way to cures/preventative diagnostics and therapies.
