08 - Network State Conference 2026 - Josh Lee on People First Crypto Wallets
Open original source ↗Cool.
Uh hello everyone. My name is Josh Lee
and I'm co-founder at Fiser. And Visor
is uh currently the fastest growing
wallet in Ccash. Um Visor is currently
available on both mobile and desktop.
And we built Visor because we
basically wanted to connect this
powerful technology that's been building
for Zcash into an experiment into an
experience that the average person can
use.
Um,
ultimately, you know, I feel like Zcash
is one of the most underrated uh
cryptocurrency and and protocol in the
entire world. uh from my experience
interacting and getting to know Zcash um
it leads in in zero knowledge
cryptography uh and applying that to
privacy uh it's at the forefront of
leading postquantum efforts and applying
that to its protocol and every person
that I've met uh and interacted with in
Zcash are some of the most brilliant and
also uh dedicated people that I've met
however uh there there is a lot of um
kind of friction in in getting to use
Zcash and for me that has felt like
there's a lot of potential energy that
is stored in Zcash
in the past you know 9 10 years of it
existence and the goal for Visor has
been to turn that uh lots of potential
energy into kinetic energy and that
means getting it out into hands of users
and making the experience of using Zcash
Whether that's through holding it,
sending it, or spending it uh extremely
good.
Um,
cool. Going to actually go start with
the gift cards first. Uh but if you go
to the Zcash Labs booth uh in the back
uh or some of you guys have may already
receive some gift cards uh we basically
shift uh gift card feature for Zcash and
what what's really cool about this is
this is a fully non-custodial
open-source open standard that has
existed in Zcash for many times and we
basically sort of flipped that and
turned that into a package that felt
coherent and and good to use. So, let's
say for example, you know, up to now, if
I wanted to gift my friend some Ze uh
for, you know, his or her birthday, uh
you'd have to basically walk them
through creating a wallet and they
wouldn't even know what a wallet is and
have them download, have them create a
wallet, you know, back up their seed
phrase. Um,
seems Okay, sorry. Seems like the video
wasn't rolling. Uh but yeah and and
it'll be the a lot of this back and
forth of hey what's what's seg what
which wallet do I use um how do I
onboard etc etc and you know with gift
cards and I'm sure some of you guys have
already tried this uh you basically get
to scan a QR code and instantly you you
see the amount that you're about to
receive and just basically walk you
through a very seamless process of
creating a wallet and claiming that gift
card. Um and and and the coolest part of
this is this is fully open. Uh and this
was a standard that has existed in Zcash
for many years and it's just that no one
has actually decided to put uh enough
effort into turning that into experience
that felt rewarding and good to use and
that I felt like that was a very great
example of of our philosophy.
Um, and another part, you know, that
we're hoping to ship uh very quick soon
is uh making shielding uh a pleasure.
So, not sure if the video is going to
roll.
There you go. Yeah. See, so you know, uh
we feel like shielding is such a
critical part of the Zcash experience
and what makes Zcash uh unique. Uh, and
a lot of times right now there's a
shield now button where you know you
click it and it turns your transparenc
into shielded ze. Uh, but we felt like
that meant something, right? When
someone downloads a wallet, brings their
transparenc that may have remained
dormant on exchanges for many many years
or months or however long into a wallet.
That's a that's a big commitment that
they're walking through and we wanted to
uh have that moment to feel rewarding uh
and exciting. uh and and we hope to sort
of apply this philosophy in other areas
of Zcash uh and hopefully make the
experience of using Zcash uh much more
pleasurable experience.
Sorry. Um ultimately we want our goal to
be to get Ze in the hands of 100 million
users. Uh we're very new. We're new kids
on the block. We've only uh we started
working on this product six months ago
uh with a very small team and it's been
four months since our release. So uh we
made a tremendous amount of progress uh
in the past six months uh and we believe
that we can continue to accelerate. So
if you have any questions feel free to
catch me after this talk and if you're
curious about what Visor is or if you
want to download and try that uh you can
check it out at visor.cashe. Thank you.
