The newly unredacted emails raise the serious possibility that the ATO pushed for the shutdown and global press conference to create an official event that would validate Nick McKenzie’s reporting and help him defend against my defamation lawsuit. Julie Holt specifically cited McKenzie’s interest when proposing the global event and drafted much of the messaging Jim Lee read during the press conference. McKenzie then used the shutdown as evidence in his defense. I do not yet have the specific communications proving the full arrangement, but the circumstantial evidence is compelling. What’s very frustrating is that it’s likely that, had I not filed my successful defamation lawsuit, my bank never would have been shut down and none of its customers would have lost a penny.
