Open original source ↗The Chicago PMI unexpectedly collapsed to 47.1 in August from 57.6 in July. Analysts had expected a rise to 59. This is the lowest reading since December 2025, but more significantly the biggest downside surprise since February 2015. The economy is far weaker than most believe.
