Yes, ppl should watch the episode. Back in 2013, Cryptsy was the big exchange, like Binance is today. It would have decent market impact when assets were listed. I basically figured out that the Cryptsy API would update a week or two before they would announce new markets, and so if you constantly pinged an increment of the asset list on the deposit api, you’d get the name of the next coin, AND you could generate yourself a deposit address on the exchange. (Deposits took a long time to be credited back in 2013 so it was important to be deposited early). I could buy the asset for a week or two prior to the market being announced, and then when the market opened, I already had coins I could list on the sell side. Very few ppl had figured this out, so there were very few ppl with coins to sell on Cryptsy, so you would reliably be able to sell into the spike. I bought and sold p much every cryptsy listing until the alpha got diluted as more ppl discovered it, and then it got harder to reliably sell since the sell side mkt got more stacked w supply. Using public information but being smarter than other participants is clearly not the same as “paying an insider” or “binance team telling you the listings”. These type of trades remained possible until like 2022, with coinbase and binance APIs products having various leaks in them, but it just wasn’t a sustainable edge like it was back in 2013, bc market impact was varied and too many ppl using the same product leakage.
