The left is making an excellent argument for never trying to help anyone, ever - since their position is that US aid once offered constitutes an ongoing and endless responsibility, forever. If the rule is that giving $20 to a homeless dude constitutes an ironclad ongoing obligation to ALWAYS cough up $20 every time you walk down that street, for the rest of your life, then the rational choice is to never do it in the first place.
