Quoted context

This paper is totally preposterous. Living near a nuclear power plant apparently raises your chance of getting some cancers in some age ranges, but not others in other age ranges, for no obvious reason. But get this: even if the paper's effect were real (it's not) it cannot come through radiation, since radiation isn't perceptibly higher near nuclear power plants when we do measure it. In this case, people NEAREST to Massachusetts nuclear power plants probably experienced 3.61 msv per year of radiation instead of 3.6 msv, the background rate for MA. Dig into any low-dose radiation study and you'll find the same thing.
