Quoted context

These are the quoted author’s words.

Super misleading title. Peter did not imply the Pope is in the employ of the Chicoms. His points is much more nuanced than that. If the Pope is pushing hard to slow down the development of AI, only the nations of the West are likely to heed that call. China will push full speed ahead. They don't care what the Pope says. So all the 'let's regulate it and slow it down', and especially, 'we can't use it in wars' calls in Europe and the US work to the benefit of the CCP. It all has real world consequences which will show up on some horrible day in the Taiwan Strait when US Sailors will go to their deaths and Taiwan will come under their boot because their drones are smarter than our drones. So, now that it's been made clear what Peter is saying, let's have a real conversation about this. We're in a cold war. This one is worse than the others. The adversary is larger by far and arguably more evil. AI advancement is likely to be the major decider of the outcome of this war. Do we really want to throttle this tech because some people will get richer faster than others or because 'global warming' or NIMBY or conservative ludlite retro nostalgia?
