Oh great, it may soon be the Pro Forma Adjusted Deficit.

Quoted context

These are the quoted author’s words.

A really important read in Barron's (long post sorry). A major accounting shift in Congress could quietly explode the U.S. deficit. Republicans want to extend Trump’s 2017 tax cuts (set to expire in 2025) but avoid the $4.6T price tag by changing how the cost is calculated LOL Instead of using standard "current law" rules (which assume the cuts expire), they want to act like the cuts were always permanent—so extending them doesn't count as extra spending. Ok sure Bob. That’s like telling your credit card company your shopping spree doesn’t count because you were “always going to do it.” If this change is allowed, the deficit looks $4.6T smaller on paper—but the debt is still very real. That could: 🔺Spook bond markets 🔺 Raise interest rates 🔺 Weaken the U.S. dollar 🔺 Undermine trust in U.S. fiscal policy I know everyone is focused on tariffs but the unintended consequences that come from lack of trust in the United States is really what could derail everything imho. Banana Republic stuff going on here.
