‼️‼️ Here's the big issue with Sunday's assassination attempt against Trump -- why the Secret Service failed in its protective mission Sunday and should not be taking a victory lap right now: THE SECRET SERVICE SHOULD HAVE SWEPT THE PERIMETER OF THE GOLF COURSE BEFORE TRUMP STEPPED FOOT ON IT. Sources in the Secret Service community tell me when Pres. Biden golfs, they sweep the perimeter as best they can, but previous assassination-attempt protocol for Trump was not to do it. But since J13, the Secret Service allegedly has just shy of the full package, so what gives? They could have at least used canines to try to do their best to sweep the perimeter. Why was Ryan Routh, a deranged individual with a long history of felonies and gun crimes (In 2002 locked himself in his former employer's office with a fully automated weapon after getting pulled over by police with a high-powered rifle) allowed to sit on the perimeter or near it for a full 12 hours with a long gun barrel sticking out of the bushes while Trump golfed? The Justice Dept. criminal complaint says there was a special agent walking the perimeter and that's who found him. If that's true -- there was at least that going on--thank goodness. That seems to differ with what Rowe said yesterday and what local law enforcement said the day before -- that a special agent walking ahead of Trump at the next hole saw the rifle sticking out of the bushes. ACTING SECRET SERVICE DIRECTOR RON ROWE SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN TAKING A VICTORY LAP YESTERDAY, PERIOD, END OF STORY. Rowe even somehow appeared to blame the incident on Trump -- using Secret Service jargon -- "It was an OTR - he shouldn't have been there." Umm, he golfs there all the time. After the assassination attempt (even before to prevent one), you should not have been using standard OTR procedures for a FORMER PRESIDENT, NOT A SITTING ONE. When I asked EXACTLY WHAT DIFFERS between Pres. Joe Biden's full package and what former Pres. Trump now has in terms of Secret Service assets assigned to him, this is the answer I got back. But it doesn't explain not sweeping the perimeter of the golf course on Sunday - and it doesn't indicate where all of these assets were on Sunday during the golfing. Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi tells me this about the differences in a statement: Former President Trump’s protective posture has been elevated to the highest levels for the Secret Service. Without going into specific numbers, Acting Director Ronald Rowe summarized some of the specialty enhancements yesterday at the press conference, including that the former president, now receives counter assault, counter, surveillance, counter, sniper, protective intelligence, and drone teams that supplement his detail. He also has emergency medical capabilities, a protective platoon from Palm Beach County and emergency tactical response functions at Maralago. As you know better than most, the sitting President of the United States receives these Secret Service assets but is also the commander-in-chief so there are additional whole-of-government resources outside of the US Secret Service that come in to our purview to safeguard POTUS. Those include significant Department of Defense and national security capabilities as well as critical support functions and assets from the White House Communications Agency, White House Military Office, White House Medical Office and others. But where were all these assets on Sunday?? Were they at Mar-a-Lago -- are they only provided for rallies, other events, and not OTR golf trips??? That refers to off the record, unscheduled events. This NYT story gets the headline right, below but the information in the story doesn't back up the headline enough. ‼️‼️The Secret Service Admits Not Searching Golf Course Perimeter, Drawing New Scrutiny Secret Service Admits Not Searching Golf Course Perimeter, Drawing New Scrutinyhttps://nytimes.com/2024/09/16/us/politics/secret-service-scrutiny-trump.html?smid=tw-share
