The CCP is orchestrating a widespread intelligence-gathering campaign at Stanford (& surely elsewhere). They sponsor scholarships, mandate student compliance through coercion, direct them to sensitive research areas, and require reports on their research. Roughly 15% of Chinese students at U.S. universities are on CCP-backed scholarships. These scholarships come with strings attached. Students have to align their research with CCP priorities, submit regular reports on sensitive U.S. research, and sign loyalty pledges to the party. The loyalty pledge carries real consequences. If a student disobeys, their family members who signed as guarantors face huge penalties - families get interrogated by police. Multiple cases exist where students from China have stolen research in AI, aerospace, quantum computing, and bioengineering. Well-written and worth a read!
