I think the personal agent that wins is the one that can handle the most unstructured data messiness. Not just the “read tables in pdfs” problem that many have tackling for a while, but — can you make sense of my Apple notes? My whole life is in there. Apple sure won’t.

is there a book / essay about environments that best support scientific discovery? Not about specifically bell labs, cavendish, xerox parc, los alamos - but why these places were so productive?

Pace

The most undervalued trait in startup hiring is pace. This is especially true today, when the floor is lava. Models that were state-of-the-art six months ago are now commodities. Code generation companies are fighting weekly battles for performance gains and feature advantages that can determine market leadership. I've watched applied AI teams with modest funding outpace 100X better resourced competitors simply because they could complete thought-to-deployment cycles in days rather than weeks. When hiring, identifying these high-velocity people is worth more than almost any other qualification. How to Recognize It Pace isn't about long hou…

hardware folks have such disdain for the kludge, lack of planning, and generally low standards of software folks. didn’t fully appreciate

it seems obvious that 1) ai future is bright and 2) we have our work cut out for us in areas of massive impact (robotics, bio, materials science, etc.) collecting data / reward signal will be hard, but possible with creativity never been a better time to be an ambitious founder I am so excited about codegen for codegen’s sake! better software for everyone! but it’s less obvious you get a lot of generalization to other domains

1/ If software is eating the world, electronic warfare is devouring the battlefield. To make sure American and its allies win this critical front of modern conflict, we're leading a $25M Series A in @DistSpectrum along w/@natfriedman and @ShieldCapVC. companies usually only spy on competitors when they are losing, don’t have their own ideas for product and distribution, and lack integrity. emerging market winners tend not to engage in this kind of (illegal) nonsense. they are too busy building and serving customers very bearish sign is when companies start spending many hours in competitors’ products, or are explicitly reverse engineering. I’ve seen this happen to multiple portfolio companies, but competitors can’t win executing on…our existing product

This is a huge coup for the American semiconductor industry and makes so much sense. Congrats to @lip_bu Tan and Intel Corporation - I am incredibly optimistic.

people in tech love to shit on bankers but the capacity to take pain is an key element of greatness, and doing banking at the top 2-3 firms pretty good filter for that (at least 10-15 years ago) a lot of engineers (esp fang types, not Tesla/startup types) haven’t experienced crunch. I’m not glorifying crunch or banking hours, but it is a valuable capability but — you don’t learn anything spreading comps the 1,000th time. that’s just work. Hopefully replaced by AI 🔜 my friend and gs-era boss @krisfredrickson (social ghost) is one of the best team-builders I know, and he puts folks (for growth vc) through a stressful exercise which is esse…

1/ How do the best startup teams hire well? Every company that finds product-market fit has customers to support, fires to handle. But if they don’t prioritize hiring, they fall into a vicious cycle, increasingly behind and unable to scale. 2/ The winning alternative is simple but hard. The best startup teams prioritize hiring. They make it a core competency. They expect it to cost time. They compress the cycle, schedule same day, debrief immediately, post mortem. Pace and throughput matter. 3/ So does understanding people as full people. Great team builders figure out someone’s motivations, requirements, goals. Who their advisors, stakeho…
