My favorite Kyle Samani memory is when we full ported Unus Sed Leo together at $1 in summer of 2019, and when it went to $2 one month later he wanted to see if anyone would sell him calls at $5 strikes. Unfortunately we all roundtripped this back to $1 the month after, but it shows his commitment to convex returns.

The fact that OGs are exiting is not as bearish as it sounds. OGs have been leaving Bitcoin since $1. Each successive wave of coin distribution strengthens the long-term health and money-ness of the asset. There are people who no one remembers today who retired with 8 figs when BTC first hit $1k in 2013. If BTC relied on any individual to buy or hold, it would have died ages ago. Saylor’s MSTR investors are underwriting a BTC exposure inherently. He is the avatar not the sole beneficiary.

In my experience, I've found that it is often more dangerous to sell the top than to sell on the way down. This is because the euphoria associated with selling the top can lead to early rebidding as well as a sense of overconfidence. I suspect Garrett having made 9 figs on 10/10, succumbed to a version of this hubris as well.

Ray Dalio’s observations on Anglo decline seem overstated, perhaps bc he speaks from within that perspective. He is obviously right about the UK, but to even discuss the UK and US in one breath is archaic. In Beijing itself, the currently fashionable theory appears to be the G7 -> G2 power architecture transition, which is to say that two complementary superpowers decide everything. After this period of posturing ends, the relationship likely settles back to core cooperation on shared interests. Tariffs function chiefly to exert suzerainty on American allies, not adversaries. American investment into Chinese equities is surging again. TikTok…

Crypto hard money thesis benefits from Lindy effect (the longer coins exist, the more we believe they will continue to exist) but crypto tech thesis is anti-Lindy (the longer it takes for the tech to fulfil a stated use case, the less likely it is to be suited for that use case)

Next five sports for LA 2028 Olympics are: Baseball, cricket, flag football, lacrosse, squash Of these, I am most bullish internationalisation of baseball. It is the best stadium spectator sport. And has the best statistical complexity and richness. Also East Asians can actually play it on a world-class level (unlike soccer) China Baseball League (mainland) in the 2000s was too early for its time, would probably work in 2030

Chinese Mauritians are one of the most impressive diaspora groups. Literally banned from owning land for generations, so they ran horseracing and associated betting on those races to accumulate 30% of the country’s wealth with 2% of population. Married Indian women also.

China has a new longterm visa (called K) launching in Oct that you can apply for solely through having a STEM degree from a good university. Think will see a lot of Indians and Pakistanis enter through this.

Shanghai is the number one weekend destination of women in Seoul now after Korea-China have initiated mutual visa-free access. I think another more subtle reason for this is Shanghai women are considered the most entitled women in China.

Padel is going to one-shot Greater China bc it is more athletic than pickleball and Europe-coded. All current pickleball frenzy will rotate into padel once certain pre-conditions are met.

In Japan there is mukoyoshi, when a family will legally adopt an adult who then runs the family business in addition to marrying the eldest daughter. I once met a Scandinavian guy who had moved to Shanghai as an 18yo in the 2000s and became adopted son and scion of a v powerful family. There will be interesting intersections between eugenics, adoption, surrogacy, and business in this century. The first trillionaire will likely be an adopted son conceived via eugenics and born via surrogacy.

The Sweden padel boom-bust cycle was mostly private equity investor driven and extrapolating covid-era returns. The local pre-existing clubs with community actually did fine and the excess capacity seems to be in the process of either being exported or rolled up into existing.
